about
Written during the isolation of the 2020 pandemic, February waxes nostalgic for the intimacy and ease of those days before the shut down when we could spend time together in person, meet friends in bars, go to live shows, and hug each other without a care in the world.
The refrain "We're together alone" or "alone together" was a phrase oft-repeated during the first part of quarantine when worldwide we were confined to our homes and restricted from going out.
Instead of being with each other, we were coping alone, afraid of the virus, counting daily death tolls and watching California state burn down from wildfires.
In the second half of the song, the lyrics switch to "Let's turn it around in February" nodding to 2021, with the hope of the vaccine on the horizon, helping us to get our lives back.
lyrics
February
I miss the way you would brush my cheek
Your hot skin after a long, hard week
I miss the way you would look at me
I miss February
Knock into me, spill your beer
Dance to the juke at the raconteur
I miss the stage, you on tour
I miss February
This year
We’re too damn sober
This year
Mountains burn
This year
I can’t find you
This year
We’re together alone
We’re together alone
Remember when you would hold me tight
Felt so good it scared me outright
I miss meeting you late at night
I miss February
Remember when you sang that night
Your voice echoed in the moonlight
Sparks and a stranger at a bonfire
I miss February
This year
I can’t touch you
This year
Too many gone
This year
The world is ending
This year
We’re together alone
Remember when we would laugh out loud
Life was so funny that you fell down
Remember the ease, let’s turn it around
In February
Let’s turn it around
In February
This year
This year
This year
This year
We’re together alone
We’re together alone
We’re together alone
We’re together alone
